Take-Two Sees Profits Thanks To NBA 2K18 And Grand Theft Auto Online, Hints At New Game
Take-Two's quarterly financial call today struck a positive note for the company which swung toward profits once again, mostly thanks to Grand Theft Auto Online and strong sales of NBA 2K18, both in copies sold and microtransactions.
Grand Theft Auto V continues to be the gift that keeps giving for Take-Two, hitting the top ten of the NPD in the U.S. every month while constantly churning out revenue through its Grand Theft Auto online mode. The game is now the third best selling game of all time and guaranteeing people circulating into Grand Theft Auto Online.
Similarly, NBA 2K18 has sold eight million copies, despite controversy over its microtransactions and 2K's attempts to walk some of it back. Still, the vast majority of customers aren't too mad, because the game's microtransaction revenue is up 30% year over year, indicating that a lot of the players are choosing to engage with them.
CEO Strauss Zelnick was pretty optimistic about the coming fiscal year and hinted at a new big title. "We continue to expect to deliver both record net bookings and record net cash provided by operating activities in fiscal 2019, in excess of $2.5 billion and $700 million, respectively, led by the launches of Red Dead Redemption 2 and a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises."
When asked about the possibility on Grand Theft Auto V on the Switch, Zelnick stated that there's nothing to announce right now, but they're extremely impressed by the growth of the system so far.

Grand Theft Auto V cannot be stopped and I feel like they were hesitant to deny the game on Switch. If they can get GTA Online to work on it, they will try to port it. I'm very curious what the next title is from one of their biggest franchises. Maybe Mafia?
