Game Of Thrones Show Creators To Write And Produce New Series Of Star Wars Films

by Imran Khan on Feb 06, 2018 at 02:43 PM

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, producers and writers of HBO's Game of Thrones, are writing and producing a new series of Star Wars films

The announcement, which came down today from Disney, identifies Weiss and Benioff as the creators of the well-known fantasy TV show. This might be putting it mildly, as Game of Thrones' cultural impact might actually be impossible to oversell in a modern context.

The pair are working on a new series, separate from the epic galaxy-saving tales of the Skywalker family and also different from Rian Johnson's still mysterious trilogy announced just before The Last Jedi's release. Beyond this, almost no details are known, except that work isn't due to start until Game of Thrones wraps up.

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

Between the main trilogy, the spin-offs, Johnson's movies, and now this, there is more Star Wars waiting in the wings than you can shake a stick at.
