Sega To Reveal What's Next For Sonic The Hedgehog At SXSW

by Imran Khan on Feb 01, 2018 at 02:48 PM

The panel list for South by Southwest, or SXSW, has been revealed, with Sega holding a panel titled "Gotta Go Fast," obviously having to do with Sonic the Hedgehog and promises of what's to come.

"Sonic is back, and ready to take 2018 by storm," the panel description reads. "Join the official team from SEGA who are building Sonic’s future as they give you an update on last year’s strong performance of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, as well as the world-exclusive first look at what comes next for the fastest blue hedgehog."

The panel is made up of Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka, Sonic PD director Austin Keys, Sonic Mania animation director Tyson Hesse, and Sonic social media manager Aaron Webber on March 16. While the description refers to strong performance of Sonic Forces, the game was critically panned and failed to chart on any NPD report since release despite being released on multiple systems in November.

What would you like to see in Sega's follow-up to Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania? Let us know in the comments.

Our Take
At this point, it feels like there's two directions for Sonic to take and the Sonic Forces direction definitely seems like the wrong one. SXSW will be a good indicator of whether or not they realize that.
