[Update] Overwatch League Suspends, Fines Dallas Fuel Player $2,000 For Derogatory Comments
Update 1/20/18: Lengyel's comments, which were homophobic and directed toward the openly gay Wilmot, have promoted Blizzard to announce Lengyel will be fined $2,000 and be suspended for four matches of the Overwatch League following his on-stream comments.
The Dallas Fuel supports Blizzard's decision, and will be suspending Lengyel not just for the four matches, but for the entirety of the league's first stage. The team says they believe in improving their players both in and off the competitive field, and will be providing "additional resources, focus coaching, physical training and support to Felix to help him improve as a professional player who is reflective of the principles of the Dallas Fuel organization, his teammates, and of the Overwatch League."
Original Story: The Overwatch League, a pro esports league devoted to its titular game, has had to deactivate a player due to comments made on their personal stream.
According to ESPN, the Dallas Fuel's Felix "xQc" Lengyel has been "deactivated" from their match with the London Spitfire due to comments he made on his personal stream directed towards the Houston Outlaws' Austin "Muma" Wilmot. This news follows some more Overwatch League controversy involving a public apology from the Shanghai Dragons who offered assurances to their fans that they will improve after a rough start.
