Square Enix Teases Tomb Raider Announcement Coming In 2018

by Keenan McCall on Dec 07, 2017 at 12:58 PM

A recent announcement brings some good news to fans waiting for a third entry in the rebooted Tomb Raider series.

In a statement released via Tomb Raider's official Twitter account, Square Enix reveals that a new Tomb Raider game is coming next year. While they won't divulge any more information until "a major event in 2018," the post promises that the time between the reveal and release will be brief. Here's the full message:

If you think the wording of the message feels a little unnatural, you're not wrong, and an eagle-eyed fan on Twitter spotted why: The first letter of each sentence spells out the word "Shadow." A leaked image from last year suggests that a new, unannounced game in the series would be called "Shadow Of The Tomb Raider," a fact today's message seems to confirm.

Our Take
While it's nice that fans are being kept in the loop, this announcement is pretty broad in terms of a time table. Hopefully they're referring to an earlier event in the year as opposed to mid-year events like E3.
