Disney Working On Star Wars, Marvel, And More TV Series For Upcoming Streaming Service

by Brian Shea on Nov 09, 2017 at 05:40 PM

Disney's upcoming video streaming service, which launches in 2019, is bolstering its offerings with some heavy hitters. The studio looks to tap the myriad properties that fall under the Disney umbrella to add value to the subscription service that will already offer Disney films and TV shows on-demand.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the studio is currently working on a live-action Star Wars series, as well as TV series based on Monsters Inc., High School Musical, and a new series from Marvel. Currently, Netflix is the home for several Disney properties, including some films and televisions series from both Star Wars and Marvel.

Netflix even has six original Marvel television series – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher – running at the moment. There's currently no word on the fate of those shows, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them either wrap up that portion of the universe or have them make the move to Disney's streaming service. It will be interesting to see how Disney begins phasing out its current deal with Netflix in preparation to become a competitor in 2019.
