PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Has Sold Over 20 Million Copies

by Cody Mello-Klein on Nov 07, 2017 at 12:30 PM

It seems like nothing can stop PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The enormously successful battle royale game passed another sales milestone last weekend, hitting more than 20 million copies sold ( , a milestone that PUBG's battle royale competitor, Fortnite, announced earlier) Via an announcement on Twitter.

Ever since it launched on Steam, PUBG has been a massive hit: it sold more than 360,000 copies in just three days. It was only a month ago that the game hit 15 million copies sold, and a month-and-a-half ago that it became Steam's most popular game of all time. All of this is before the game comes to Xbox One, which should see sales spike yet again. To put this in perspective, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which released at the series' peak commercial success, has sold around 22 million copies across multiple platforms, including console bundles.

The tweet also acknowledges that while many players are feeling frustrated with issues in the game, "change is coming!"

Our Take
PUBG is, without a doubt, the runaway success of 2017, but it's still impressive how the game continues to hit milestone after milestone even before it releases on another platform. With this recent sales milestone, the game is now one of the top 30 best-selling games of all time. How high will it climb?
