SNES-Themed New 3DS Stealthily Appears On Amazon, With Super Mario Kart

A Super Nintendo-themed New 3DS XL suddenly appeared on Amazon this morning, with Amazon confirming its existence just after.

The new 3DS, which is a New 3DS, but not a new kind of 3DS, bears the design elements of the American Super Nintendo. It is Amazon-exclusive and includes a download of Super Mario Kart on the 3DS virtual console, the SNES Mario Kart title, the first title in the series, and one of the twenty-one games on SNES Classic released last month.

Both Japan and Europe have their own versions of the a SNES (in Japan's case, Super Famicom) 3DS, though as those regions had different designs for the SNES, the 3DSes themselves also had different designs. So keep that in mind if you are planning to finish off your 3DS collection.

The release is also interesting as an Amazon exclusive, as the online retailer and Nintendo had been famously warring for a few years, to the point where Amazon stopped selling hardware directly through Amazon. Popular speculation was that Amazon and Nintendo were butting heads over the tendency of the original 3DS to scratch its own top screen and Nintendo allegedly telling Amazon to deal with the returns, though neither party has ever confirmed that to be the case. It does seem an Amazon-exclusive variation puts a lot of that bad blood to the side, at least.

Amazon lists the release for the SNES 3DS as 11/27 for $199.99. You know, if you haven't had enough Super Nintendo nostalgia yet this year.

Also, I'm curious: let us know in the comments how you said the name of Nintendo's 16-bit console. Did you say Snes? S-N-E-S? Super NES? Just Super Nintendo? Something totally off the wall and different?
