Destiny 2 Stands Atop September Game Sales, But NBA, Rabbids, And Marvel Hang On Close
The NPD has released the sales for September 2017, slightly delayed from last Thursday due to issues with their calculations. Last month, Madden had control of the whole field while Grand Theft Auto V continued its insane sales streak.
This month, the release of Destiny 2 captured most gamers' attentions, topping the All Platforms list for combined versions. The remaining top five is filled up with NBA 2K18, Madden 18, and FIFA 18 in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spots, respectively. The fifth spot, however, is occupied by Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which likely places it as the most successful third party game on the Switch.
Another major note is that Metroid, commonly thought of as a niche title by even its developer and publisher Nintendo, placed just outside the top ten at the number 12 spot. Considering it was a 3DS release and does not include digital sales (as they are not given to the NPD by Nintendo), it is likely Metroid sold above public expectations.
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite also performed above expectations, as the game had not been doing very well in other regions.

Note that, as mentioned, Nintendo does not include digital sales, and neither does Activision-Blizzard report Battle.net sales, so Destiny and Overwatch may be higher than they show on the list.
In terms of console sales, Nintendo made up the bulk of hardware sales with the Switch and the SNES Classic. Overall, the industry saw fairly tremendous growth this month.
October also includes many high-profile releases, so it is likely to be even more competitive next month, with several huge titles dropping on October 27, one day before the NPD stops tracking for the month.
