Doom On Nintendo Switch Framerate And Size Details

by Imran Khan on Sep 22, 2017 at 02:48 PM

A Bethesda spokesperson confirmed to Rolling Stone that Bethesda's port of Doom on Switch will be a consistent 30 frames per second (FPS). They also confirmed that the game is shipping on a 16GB cart, which contains the entirety of the single-player campaign, with the multiplayer being a separate 9GB download.

The framerate is about half of how Doom performed on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and comparable PC specs. Being 30 FPS consistently should still make the game play well, as the graphics are being designed around the Switch's capabilities.

The size also puts to rest some fears about the infamously large game would fit on a Switch cartridge. On PC, the game takes up well over 55GB, with similar sizes on consoles. Due to higher costs associated with larger cart sizes, publishers either charge more for games, take the hit themselves, or push the extra amount as a download, such as the case of Resident Evil Revelations Collection. With Doom, Bethesda is choosing to use a 16GB cart and push the multiplayer to the eShop as a 9GB download free for owners of the game. Purchasers who want to buy the campaign digitally, as well, download both at once as one large file.

What do you think about how Bethesda is making Doom fit on the Switch?
