Kiryu Gets Dragged Back Into Japan's Underworld In New Yakuza Kiwami 2 Trailer

by Keenan McCall on Sep 21, 2017 at 03:10 PM

The Dragon of Kamurocho returns to the Japanese underworld in the new trailer released at Tokyo Game Show 2017.

Set one year after the events of the first game, Yakuza Kiwami 2 follows Kiryu as the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance teeter on the brink of war. With no other leaders capable of brokering peace between the two factions, Kiryu is drawn out of retirement back into the chaos of yakuza life and must travel from Kamurocho to Sotenbori to negotiate with Ryuji Goda, son of the Omi Alliance's leader.

The trailer also features Majima, who has led his gang to new ventures after the first game's end. Other footage and images out of TGS 2017 show that Majima will be a playable character in Kiwami 2, and that the game will include fully playable versions of Sega's Virtual On and Virtua Fighter 2.

While the game currently doesn't have a western release date, the game is slated to ship in Japan December 7, 2017.

Our Take
Yakuza 2 is held by many fans as one of the best in the franchise, so hopefully Kiwami 2 will recapture the experience for them while also holding onto the new fans brought in since Yakuza 0.
