Patty Jenkins Back To Direct Wonder Woman Sequel

by Kimberley Wallace on Sep 11, 2017 at 03:37 PM

The latest Wonder Woman film won lots of fanfare and praise from critics, becoming a force at the box office this summer, grossing over $402 million domestically and reaching the $800 million mark worldwide. It's no surprise that Warner Bros. would want to keep the director who helped make it all happen: Patty Jenkins. Jenkins has voiced that she's proud of the film and would love to come back for Wonder Woman 2. Today, it's official she'll be returning for the sequel. She will also help co-write and produce it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, contract negotiations were "lengthy" and "challenging," but its sources say Jenkins is receiving writing and directing fees somewhere in the $7 to $9 million range, with a considerable backend attached. This deal makes Jenkins the highest-paid female director to date, and is a far cry from the $1 million she made for her efforts on the first movie. This certainly marks a brighter future for female directors and woman-led superhero movies.

Wonder Woman 2 is set for a December 13, 2019 premiere. Gal Gadot is also signed on to reprise her role as Wonder Woman.
