Destiny 2's Servers Are Now Online And Playable If You Have An Early Copy

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 05, 2017 at 11:42 AM

The servers weren't supposed to be online until tonight, but if you were able to get your hands on a copy of Destiny 2, you can play it right now.

This does not mean your pre-ordered, pre-downloaded version of the game is suddenly playable, nor will you be able to buy the game at a store ahead of its official September 6 release date, but press (including our own Suriel Vazquez on PlayStation 4) and other folks who received advanced copies are playing now.

What this means for you, and why this is interesting, is because if you want to see the game in action, there are plenty of folks streaming the game online. We reached out to Activision/Blizzard for a comment on the surprise early access to the the game and will update this story if and when we receive a response.

Our Take
Wednesday is an odd release date for a game (usually it's Tuesdays or Fridays) and I wonder if that contributed to the game being playable a little early. In any case, I am sure no one is complaining. I guess the only thing to be wary of is spoilers. If you want the purist experience, don't go on Twitch!
