Blizzard Creates New, Official Test Server For WarCraft III

by Suriel Vazquez on Aug 12, 2017 at 05:00 PM

WarCraft III turned 15 years old last month. As a belated birthday gift to one of its most famous games, Blizzard has launched a Public Test Realm (PTR) for the game, making changes to game balance and map alterations in a new test environment.

The PTR tweaks the balance of creep camps in the early game, increases resource allocation, and makes a number of map alterations for aesthetic purposes. The game has been receiving balance patches regularly, with its last patch released as recently as April of this year.

Blizzard also details some upcoming changes for the game. "We are aware Warcraft III matchmaking is a bit long in the tusk," the update says. "We will be improving matchmaker logic for a future patch."

Our Take
This is an interesting development in light of StarCraft being remastered and receiving changes. The new test server could hint at a remaster. Of course, it could also just be a better solution for patching a very old game. We'll see!
