PlayStation Plus Price Rises In Europe
Sony has announced today that PlayStation Plus prices are going up 25% in Europe, verified by Eurogamer.
In an email sent to subscribers today, Sony explained that the annual subscription price is being hiked from £39.99 to £49.99. Three month plans are raising from £14.99 to £19.99, while single-month plans are increasing from £5.99 to £6.99.
This mirrors the price increase seen in North America in August 2016, where the annual price raised $10. At the time, Sony argued that the price increase was made to reflect current market conditions while still providing value to its customers. The email sent to European PlayStation Plus subscribers did not include any reasoning for the increase.
For European subscribers, the higher price goes live as of August 31st, 2017. If your subscription auto-renews or you activate a card before that date, it still reflects the older price.
A PlayStation Plus account is required for users to play online multiplayer and provides downloadable games every month as part of the subscription.

This was inevitable after the price increase in North America, but price increases always sting a bit no matter where you are. Making a subscription a requirement for online multiplayer and also raising the price makes people feel boxed in.
