Mages Of Mystralia Coming To Console Next Month

by Jeff Cork on Jul 28, 2017 at 10:03 AM

Mages of Mystralia launched on PC earlier this year, following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Today, developer Borealys Games announced that the game, an action-RPG that lets you design your own magic spells, is coming to consoles starting next month.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the game is coming to PlayStation 4 on August 22. The game is also coming to the Xbox One, and we're awaiting confirmation that it's arriving on the same day.

As the post details, the game's combat is built around four basic spell categories, which can then be modified with a variety of collectible runes. It's a flexible system that allows players to come up with offensive weapons like automated turrets and multishot fireballs on the fly.

In his review for the game, Ben Reeves wrote, "Up until the end of the game, I was unlocking new runes that exponentially added to my magical arsenal. Piecing all of those runes into a new master spell made me feel like the most creative mage who’d ever lived, making this light-hearted adventure truly magical."

Our Take
I'm a sucker for games that let you build your own spells, and this one managed to fly under my radar. I'll have to give it a shot, and see if I can't find some game-breaking combos, kind of the the anvil tornadoes from Two Worlds II.
