Nintendo Ceases Production of New 3DS in Japan

by Craig Taylor on Jul 13, 2017 at 02:27 PM

According to Nintendo's official Japanese website, the company has ended production of all New 3DS models.

The news comes via a product description for the standard New 3DS, which the entry for the New 3DS XL does not share.

The New 3DS was first released in Japan on October 11, 2014, with a North American release following several months later.

Our Take
Every home or handheld console stops production at some point, so this news doesn't necessarily signal some big momentum shift for the company. But given the Switch's portability, one has to wonder if it will one day replace the DS family entirely.
