Trainers Can Unite During Global Pokémon Go Fest Event

by Jeff Cork on Jul 12, 2017 at 09:27 AM

Odds are, you aren't going to Pokémon Go Fest later this month in Chicago. Even if you live in the area or could have traveled that way, tickets sold out in about 30 minutes. All is not lost, however. Niantic and The Pokémon Company have revealed information about how everyone will be able to work together during the July 22 event to unlock special bonuses.

Trainers who were fortunate enough to make it to Chicago that day will face three different timed challenges, where they have to collect certain types of Pokémon. If they manage to catch enough during those windows, they can unlock perks for players globally. During those periods, players who aren't in Chicago can extend the length of those unlocked bonuses by catching their own Pokémon during those times. And if players worldwide can catch enough monsters, another secret challenge will be unveiled in Chicago, which could unlock "an extra-special bonus across the globe," according to Niantic and The Pokémon Company.

Additional events are coming to Europe on August 5, August 12, and September 16, though they don't appear to have a similar global incentive.

Our Take
That's a pretty clever way to make sure that everyone feels like they have some skin in the game, even if they couldn't make it to Chicago.
