Arkane Studios Founder Raphael Colantonio Departs Company After 18 Years

by Suriel Vazquez on Jun 27, 2017 at 02:45 PM

Raphael Colantonio, founder and president of Arkane Studios as well as creative director on the Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Prey, and more, announced he is parting ways with the company after 18 years.

Writing on the Bethesda blog, Colantonio writes that he is leaving the company to "spend some time with my son and reflect on what is important to me and my future." He also writes positively about the decision for Arkane to join ZeniMax. "I can say that joining ZeniMax took things to the next level and gave Arkane the opportunity to emerge as a world-class studio. ZeniMax enabled us to make the best games that we’ve ever made. And I know there is even more to come."

Colantonio then addresses the question of leadership after his departure. Harvey Smith, who has worked closely with Colantonio on the Dishonored series (and before joining Arkane, Deus Ex), will be leading the Austin team, while Colantonio will "be around for as long as necessary to ensure a smooth transition to the new management team in Lyon."

We recently interviewed Colantonio about the team's mission to create immersive sims like Dishonored and Prey. You can watch the video below.

Our Take
As a fan of Arkane's games, I'm curious to see how their games change after Colantonio's departure. That said, I wish him all the best on whatever he decides to do next.
