Sega Makes Another Nostalgia Play With Sega Forever Collection On Mobile

by Jeff Cork on Jun 21, 2017 at 10:02 AM

While some of us might bristle at the thought of reliving moments from our past, Sega is the first to whip out the ol' photo album. Nostalgia is a powerful force in gaming, and the publisher has raided its vaults through countless collections, remasters, and ports over the years. If you want yet another way to play through Sega's classics/moldy oldies, you're in luck. The company has announced a new Sega Forever collection for mobile, which is launching tomorrow on iOS and Android.

The launch lineup includes five games from the Genesis era: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Phantasy Star II, Comix Zone, and Kid Chameleon. Sega says additional games will be released every two weeks, spanning across the company's history. The game's official Twitter account has close-up shots of the Dreamcast, Saturn, and Master System hardware, so it's reasonable to assume we'll be seeing games from those consoles at some point in the future.

The games support Bluetooth controllers, cloud saves, and leaderboards. They're ad-supported, but playable offline, in case you find yourself in the middle of nowhere or on an airplane. If you're really into a game and don't want to be interrupted by the ads, you can purchase the titles for $1.99 a pop.

Our Take
These five games are fairly solid picks, which is probably why they've been available for download on various platforms for more than a decade. I'll hold out for the time being, but this seems like another solid option for playing older games if you aren't yet completely over Comix Zone by now.
