Dragon Ball FighterZ Could Come To Nintendo Switch, If Fans Want It

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jun 19, 2017 at 03:06 PM

According to a recent interview, Bandai Namco is open to porting its stylish 2D fighter to Nintendo's new console.

Bandai Namco announced Dragon Ball FighterZ at E3 with an action-packed trailer that highlights the game's anime-style visuals, but fans quickly noticed one thing missing from the announcement – a Nintendo Switch logo. Currently the game is only in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, leading some to conclude that Nintendo's new console/handheld hybrid isn't powerful enough to run the game.

Thankfully for Nintendo fans, Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki has swatted down those rumors in a new interview with Game Blog. When asked if a Switch port is impossible, Hiroki offered a definitive denial. "I have no idea who said this, but it's really not a question of the console's power, " Hiroki said. "We didn't really encounter problems with the Switch version of Xenoverse 2." Hiroki goes on to say that the Bandai Namco is open to porting the game to the Switch. "I'll say that if we continue to receive demand from fans, we would go ahead with a Switch version [of Dragon Ball FighterZ]. It likely wouldn't release at the same time as the others, but we can envision it."

Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently slated for an "early 2018" release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. For more on the game, check out our own interview with Hiroki from this year's E3.

Our Take
The Switch's power has been much discussed in relation to the other current-gen consoles; it's nice to know that it's not standing in the way of a Dragon Ball FighterZ port. If anything, the interview reads as a request for Nintendo fans to speak up if they're interested in playing it. I'm guessing they are, and that they will.
