Ubisoft Fires Off First Look At Space Junkies

by Matt Miller on Jun 12, 2017 at 04:32 PM

This new VR shooter is targeted to the hardcore shooting crowd. Space Junkes plays as an outer-space jet-pack shooter played in first-person with “full embodiment,” meaning your entire body is realized in-game, including hands and legs.

Players move around a spherical playfield in full three dimensions shooting everything from guns to energy-based slingshots in a competition against other players in either 1v1 or 2v2 combat. Hide behind asteroids and peek around the edge, or grab a flashlight as it floats nearby in micro-gravity, and use it to scout out darker areas. The 3D motion and shooting in this game is one of the more impressive implementations of full motion VR we’ve yet seen.

The game is developed using a unique VR development system that Ubisoft has termed “Brigitte VR” which allows developers to manipulate and design levels while in VR.

Space Junkies is targeting release on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in the spring of 2018.
