Seaman Creator Teases New Seaman Project

by Douglas DeLong on May 25, 2017 at 12:48 PM

The last time we heard from developer Yutaka "Yoot" Saito, he was giving a talk at Game Developers Conference 2017 about creating the original Seaman game for Sega Dreamcast. Seaman was a bizarre game in which the player took care of a virtual fish with a human face, and interacted with it via microphone. The game developed a cult following, and over the years there has been interest in reviving the franchise. After years of silence, few expected Seaman to swim back into the spotlight.

Today, a new tweet from Saito teased he is starting a new project, and all signs point to it being related to Seaman. The shirts in the image display both the familiar Frogman silhouette from the Dreamcast game, and part of a url that says Seaman.

Our Take
I'm not sure that there were many people panicking about the lack of Seaman in their lives, but this is still exciting news for fans whose fond memories of the original have been rekindled by Saito's recent tweets and GDC talk. The first game was fascinating because of how strange and unique it was, so hopefully this project is just as intriguing.
