Report: Writer Confirms More Dragon Age On The Way

by Kimberley Wallace on May 22, 2017 at 05:24 PM

Dragon Age has been a successful franchise for BioWare, so it's not surprising that there's more in store for it. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, writer Alexis Kennedy, who created Sunless Sea and worked on the text-based browser game Dragon Age: The Last Court, confirmed he's working on something related to the franchise. If you've been following the creators on Twitter, this isn't a best-kept secret as many key team members have been teasing something is in the works.

Kennedy is working on a project with Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw and writer Patrick Weekes, but nothing has been revealed about what it is. In the interview, Kennedy confirmed he's indeed working on the franchise, telling Eurogamer, "What I can say is I have been given considerable autonomy to work on a storyline bit of lore which is well-segregated from other parts of the game. And yes, if you've seen a lot of my work before you will probably not be surprised by the choice of subject matter. It's familiar stuff." Kennedy also teased, "It's a bit of lore which has not been addressed much to date in Dragon Age."

This information led to speculation that this might be the next Dragon Age game, but Kennedy took to Twitter to say don't assume anything, which Laidlaw also supported.

We reached out to EA for comment, and were told the following: "It's a pleasure having Alexis involved with BioWare; we have no new information to share regarding Dragon Age at this time."

For more info, you can check out the full interview at Eurogamer, where he shares some of the challenges and his excitement for the project.

Our Take
It's important to keep expectations in check. Kennedy made clear himself that this could be any number of things, from DLC to a spinoff. Though, we wouldn't be surprised if work is already well underway on the next game. After all, Dragon Age: Inquisition was extremely successful for BioWare, earning a slew of awards, including Game Informer's Game of the Year in 2014. I'm excited for when we can hear more about what is in the works. The Dragon Age universe is rich, and it's cool that Kennedy is working on something that expands the lore of something that hasn't been addressed much yet.
