NPD: Mario Kart 8 Races To The Top Of The April Sales Chart

by Ben Reeves on May 18, 2017 at 09:08 PM

Nintendo should be happy. Two of the company's highest profile Switch titles seem to be selling well. However, this month's April sales figures also show that Atlus seems to be reaching a wider audience than before with its Persona games.

Overall, video game sales are strong as the industry raked in around $636 million in April, which is a growth of about 10 percent when compared to last year's April sales. This also marks the first time that the industry has see two months of consecutive growth since November 2015. Nintendo's Switch led hardware sales, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Persona 5, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild all topped the software charts.

    Our Take
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is likely my game of the year (heck, past five years), so I'm glad to see that it is selling well. It's also nice to see Persona 5 near the top of the list. I'm still digging into that game, but it seems pretty good so far. It's also fascinating to watch the monster that is GTA V continue to make the top ten month-after-month, even this far after it's initial release.
