Destiny 2 On PC To Appear On Blizzard Launcher

by Matt Miller on May 18, 2017 at 01:07 PM

In a surprise finale to today’s live streamed Destiny 2 reveal event, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg took the stage, along with some help from a video message recorded by Blizzard president Mike Morhaime, to announce that Destiny 2 will be the first non-Blizzard game to be featured on the the Blizzard launcher, a system that recently transitioned from its old name of Battle.net to a new Blizzard-branded identity.

For those with an eye for the technical elements of the game, Destiny 2 on PC will feature 4K resolution support (3820x2160), an uncapped framerate, full mouse and keyboard support including custom key mapping options, text chat, adjustable field of view, the expected array of PC settings on a dedicated screen, and 21:9 monitor support.

This was just one of the pieces of info that Bungie shared at today’s event; you can read a round-up of much of that info, which we'll be posting momentarily. In addition, keep an eye out for our next issue of Game Informer, hitting in June, where we’ll have an in-depth dive beyond what was shown of Destiny 2 at today’s event, along with some new exclusive screens.

Our Take
Destiny 2 on the Blizzard app is a big deal, but one that makes a lot of sense upon close examination. Both companies focus on community engagement. Bungie gains access to a new community of potential players, including a large group of international players. And Blizzard can highlight its app as the place on PC to find one the year’s biggest shooters. I’ll be eager to hear what both communities of players think of this new partnership.
