Overwatch's Uprising Event Was Played 145 Million Times

by Jeff Marchiafava on May 10, 2017 at 01:42 PM

This just in: Overwatch's latest experiment with co-op was super popular, and Blizzard's got the infographics to prove it.

Over the course of the 145+ million matches that were played during the Uprising, the CPU-driven Null Sector had a 14-percent edge, winning 78 million matches compared to players' 67 million victories. 8.5 billion omnic droids were destroyed during the event, earning players 815 million loot boxes. Uprising also offered plenty of challenge: Players won on the easiest difficulty level at a rate of 75 percent, but the hardest setting was only conquered 0.6 percent of the time.

It should be no surprise that a lot of players checked out the Uprising event, given Overwatch's immense popularity. During last week's earnings call, Activision announced that Overwatch has made over $1 billion in revenue during its first year, making it Blizzard's fastest-growing franchise ever.

Our Take
The biggest takeaway from Blizzard's Uprising infographic is also the most obvious: Fans love getting to play with Overwatch's beloved characters in a co-op format. Uprising's mission framework is the perfect approach to this type of content, allowing Blizzard to flesh out Overwatch's universe and lore without delving into a full-blown story campaign. Here's hoping the next step is a permanent playlist for missions – the content is clearly popular with the player base, so stop taking it away!
