Reader Discussion – What Do You Think Of Overwatch's Loot Boxes?

by Matt Bertz on May 05, 2017 at 04:15 PM

In the interest of keeping its combat on an even playing field, Overwatch bucked the trend of offering new weapons, attachments, and special abilities in progression systems. Instead, as you earn XP and level up you receive Loot Boxes, which offer a randomized collection of character skins, sprays, highlight intros, emotes, and voice lines.

Discussions surrounding the Loot Box system haven't ceased since Overwatch's release last year. Some think it's predatory, others argue it's fine. Our own Brian Shea wrote an editorial a few months ago demanding an overhaul, and today developer Blizzard revealed the probabilities for epic and legendary opens (albeit in China, not North America). So we want to know – what do you think?

Do you spend money on Loot Boxes? Do you think they are doled out to players at a reasonable rate? If you were to change the system, how would you alter it? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
