Call Of Duty Returns To Its WWII Roots With Next Entry

by Jeff Cork on Apr 21, 2017 at 12:00 PM

Activision has revealed the name (and setting) of the next Call of Duty installment, and as expected it's taking the series back to its roots. Call of Duty: WWII is the next game, and more details will be coming next week via a livestream.

Even though it covers an era that Call of Duty has explored several times, it marks a bit of a departure for the series. For the past decade, entries have focused on the near future and beyond, with Infinite Warfare taking the action to outer space.

Additional information on the game will be coming next week, on a livestream on the official Call of Duty site. It starts at 10 a.m. Pacific.

Our Take
I've personally enjoyed the past few Call of Duty games, but I recognize that not everyone has been thrilled with the sci-fi direction. It'll be interesting to learn more about the setting, such as what specific battles will be incorporated into the game, as well as the overall tone that they're aiming for. Going back in time worked wonders for Battlefield, and hopefully the decades-long break Activision has taken from World War II will revitalize the action.
