This 20/20 Segment On The NES From 1988 Is Fascinating

by Brian Shea on Apr 10, 2017 at 03:59 PM

When the NES launched in the US over 30 years ago, it became the must-have toy for families across the country. In 1988, news program 20/20 sent one of its reporters out to investigate why kids were so in love with the Nintendo system and why it was so tough to get your hands on the system and its games.

The clip is introduced by anchor Hugh Downs, who says the Nintendo Entertainment System may be, "the most addictive toy in history." The clip then transitions to a segment by correspondent John Stossel, who is first seen waiting in line trying to secure an illusive copy of Super Mario Bros. 2 alongside several dedicated parents. The feature then goes on to talk about why Nintendo appeals to children so much.

You can watch 20/20's "Nuts for Nintendo" segment below.
