Weekend Warrior — Save The Drama For Persona

by Manon Hume on Apr 07, 2017 at 07:00 PM

Persona 5 came out this week, which was a big deal made even bigger by Atlus' announcement of streaming guidelines for players. After that, BioWare issued an apology about its handling of transgender character Hainly Abrams and released a patch to fix issues that have been in the game since its release last month. After that, the tech specs of Microsoft's Project Scorpio came out to a very vocal reception in the latest console war skirmish.

After a crazy week like this one, we're happy to kick back, relax, and enjoy some games (and maybe even some sunshine). What are you doing to decompress this weekend? Tell us your plans in the comments below!

Ben Hanson (@yozetty– Oh man, the weekend is already here! I’m still playing Mass Effect: Andromeda for our red hot GI Game Club but I hope to find time for something else as well. I have to choose between starting Persona 5 and Nier. One will make me fit in with all the cool JRPG fans and the other will make me part of a super elite underdog club. Such a tough choice… enjoy your weekend!

Kyle Hilliard (@KyleMHilliard) – I’m going to see that new Smurfs movie tonight, so that should be a delight. I also would really like to see the end of the Horizon Zero Dawn this weekend, but I don’t have a great sense of how much game I have left. I am about 15 hours in, level 20 give or take. After that Nier: Automata is probably up next. Either that or Persona 5. We’ll see which way I am leaning when the time comes.

Jeff Cork (@gijeff) – Well, it happened – I’m completely back into Diablo III’s grip. I’ve been sucked into the grind machine now that the PS4 finally has seasons. I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Crusader, which is a class I never bothered playing with before. So between running my thorny hero through crowds of demons, I’ll probably find some time to play some of the remastered Bulletstorm. Also, I need to get around to playing some Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Fortunately, my family is out of town for the weekend, so I have nothing to do other than play games.

Kristin Williams (@kristincreate) – I’m planning on taking advantage of our hopefully first real nice weather on a weekend of the year (thanks, Minnesota), but otherwise I’ll be doing my best impression of a troublemaking high school student who also happens to be a master thief of hearts in Persona. That game is just so gosh darn stylish.

Brian Shea (@BrianPShea) – This weekend, it’s supposed to be really nice here in Minneapolis, but I’m sure I’ll still get plenty of gaming time in. I can guarantee I’ll play some Overwatch, but I also just started Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel since that’s the only Borderlands game I have never played. I’ll also probably continue my casual playthroughs of Pokémon SoulSilver and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary.

Javy Gwaltney (@Hurdyiv) – PERSONA PERSONA PERSONA PERSONA zelda PERSONA PERSONA PERSONA PERSONA PERSONA beer

Joe Juba (@joejuba– Even though I already finished Persona 5, I've started up a New Game+ in hopes of reaching (and defeating) the super-boss, so I plan to tackle that this weekend. However, I also just got a Switch, which means I need to set aside some time to get that all set up. And once that's done, I don't know that I can resist seeing what all the Zelda fuss is about...

Matt Bertz (@mattbertz) – This weekend I plan to continue my “colonization” of the Andromeda galaxy, even though it seems like Milky Way races have already been everywhere I’m going already. Whatever. If I get fed up with Mass Effect, I’ll turn my attention to completing Horizon, which I’m still excited about 15 hours in.

Manon Hume (@ManonHume) – A city-wise friend gave me a list of things to do in Minneapolis that I'm working through like real-life achievements. Top of the list this weekend is "thrifting," which should be a fun adventure. I'm also picking up the last few collectibles in Horizon Zero Dawn, even though I don't really want the game to be over...

Zak Wojnar (@ZakWojnar) – I’ve got work to do, games to play, and shows to watch. After being thoroughly engrossed in the time-travel world of Quantum Break, I’m ready to cut loose with some irreverent fun in Sunset Overdrive. I hear it’s a wild and zany ride about the evils of processed sugar. Move over, Needle Park; everyone knows the soda aisle is where they peddle the real poison! If I get the chance, I also want to devour Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and maybe try the newly-released Drawn to Death, if I can get some pals together.

On the TV front, I’m finished with Legion (visually stunning and unpredictable while just conventional to fall into an esoteric trap), I’m all caught up on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (reliably crass and hilarious), and I totally devoured Rick & Morty (I still hate the burping, but it’s my new favorite show)… Of course, this isn’t to say I’m short on television to watch: next on my list is season 2 of Fargo, so I can indulge in my Patrick Wilson man crush. He’s so dreamy!

Andrew Reiner (@Andrew_Reiner) – The weekend belongs to Persona 5 and Star Wars Celebration prep work. Persona 5 has been a delight so far, delivering on story, combat, characters, and even the pacing. It took me hours to find a rhythm with Persona 4, but Persona 5 clicked with me right out of the gate. I also want to squeeze in a few episodes of Iron Fist this weekend. I agree with most people in saying it isn’t great, but it isn’t bad, either.

Jordan Leendertsen (@Bad_Durandal) – With new characters coming to KOF 14, I’m gonna take a second stab at getting gud there, because Whip looks dope. I will also probably be finishing Dark Souls 2 and going deeper in Gravity Rush 2. I love Gravity Rush 2 so much from what I’ve played, I’m seriously considering getting a tattoo. Speaking of which, I will also be continuing my Overwatch crusade. Gotta get them coins for next week’s event.
