Horizon Zero Dawn's Two-Week Sales Blast Past 2.6 Million Copies

by Jeff Cork on Mar 16, 2017 at 05:40 AM

We knew that Guerrilla Games' new game Horizon Zero Dawn was a critical success, but now Sony has confirmed that it's also done pretty darned well in the sales department. According to the publisher, more than 2.6 million copies of the game have been sold globally in the two weeks since its release.

Unlike much of the number-fudging that goes on in the games industry, that's sold through, and not just copies sold to retailers. Guerrilla is, unsurprisingly, stoked.

"We're thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike. Developing the game was a labor of love, so it's extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development," said Guerrilla managing director Hermen Hulst. "This is only the beginning of Aloy's story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story."

If you're among those 2.6 million consumers, you might want to take a look at Jeff Marchiafava's helpful tips for the game.

Our Take
I'm glad to hear that the team is working on more content, but they shouldn't feel like they're on a tight deadline here. There's a lot to explore in Horizon, and I doubt I'll get anywhere close to finishing it soon at the pace I'm on.
