The lights are on
In a recent financial report, Payday publisher/developer Starbreeze Studios revealed that a third Payday is currently in development, but it will be done when it is done and it currently has no release window.
The report comes from GamesIndustry.biz which sites impressive growth for Starbreeze thanks to the huge success of Dead by Daylight. In the documents, though, was a more interesting tidbit about the future of the Payday franchise. Starbreeze says Payday 3 is in the "full design stage," but CEO Bo Andersson Klint cautioned that the game will, "enjoy as much time as we deem needed. It will be done when it's done."

Our TakeDespite negative fan feedback over Payday 2's microtransactions, the game was still a huge success. I'm not too surprised to see a sequel in development, but in this games-as-service age, I expected Starbreeze to just keep updating Payday 2 with new content.

I only got into Payday 2 because a friend persuaded me but after the safe debacle I pretty much dropped the game. Sure, the game had a lot of problems before but at least it was fun playing with my friends and the developers were relatively receptive to the community. The safe thing made me lose all enthusiasm for the game however and made me realize just how bad Overkill had gotten.
It just needs more maps modes and players
Fingers crossed they don't screw it up post-launch as badly as they did with Payday 2.
Do we really need another one?
Hopefully this time around they won't straight up lie and say there WON'T be microtransactions...
I'll be cautious after Payday 2's stint with microtransactions.
