80 New Gold & Silver Pokémon And Much More Coming To Pokémon Go This Week

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 15, 2017 at 12:00 AM

Pokémon Go is getting a big update this week that adds Johto Pokémon to the wild, trainer accessories, new berry types, and more.

Niantic announced the update this morning with an ambiguous "later this week" timeframe for release. Along with the 80 new Gold & Silver Pokémon in the wild, the UI will be getting some tweaks, and there will be "new gameplay mechanics for Trainers to master." Trainers will also be able to collect new Pinap and Nanab berries. Pinap berries reward twice as much candy upon capture if successful. Nanab berries slow Pokémon movement.

Additional updates include new accessories, hats, shirts, and pants options for your avatar, and the addition of evolution items. How those will work is currently unclear.

Our Take
I am very, very excited to have new Pokémon to catch. I hit a wall in recent weeks where I can't really get anything new. I look forward to seeing that shadowy silhouette in my Pokémon nearby radar again. These are all good updates, and I don't mean to look a gift horse in the mouth, but is trading just not going to happen at this point? Should I get rid of all these extra Tauros I have been holding onto?
