Forza Franchise Sales Race Past $1 Billion Marker

Before Forza joined the racing game line-up back in 2005, Sony's sim racer Gran Turismo sat in pole position. Twelve years later, Microsoft's racing franchise is now the undisputed king of racing thanks to the stellar efforts of developers Turn 10 and Playground Games for the sim-focused Motorsport and open-road Horizon series, respectively. 

Today Microsoft announced the two series have combined to surpass $1 billion in retail sales to date. Right now, more than 14 million players have played a Forza game across Xbox One and PC, and Microsoft says it's the best-selling racing franchise of the generation. Its most recent entry, Forza Horizon 3, recently surpassed 2.5 million sales.

Our Take
Given the large time gaps between Gran Turismo entries, the frequency and quality of the Forza games is impressive,
