Devolver Digital To Showcase Games At GDC From Developers Affected By U.S. Immigration Ban

by Jeff Marchiafava on Feb 02, 2017 at 12:12 PM

Indie publisher Devolver Digital has put out an open call to developers who are no longer able to make it to this year's Game Developers Conference due to the recently enacted immigration ban.

Devolver Digital made the announcement via press release, offering to demo games for affected developers at its "Devolver Underground" site, located near the convention center. Devolver says it has gaming PCs and Vive VR headsets available, but that space is limited. As such, the publisher says it will prioritize developers who had already made travel plans to GDC but have since been forced to cancel. The official GDC organization stated last week that it will offer refunds to affected attendees as well.

A number of other game companies have release official statements in opposition to the ban, including InsomniacMicrosoft, and Harmonix. For more on Devolver Digital's GDC plans, check out their official website.

Our Take
A number of readers have responded to our previous stories related to the immigration ban, requesting that we "stay out of politics." While we acknowledge and respect our readership's many diverse backgrounds and viewpoints, the fact of the matter is that politics have a direct influence on games, as well as the developers who create them. When a political event or legislation directly affects the industry, that's news – and we as a media outlet are obligated to share it with our readers. If that bothers you, please remember that you are under no such obligation to read or comment on such stories.
