'Professional Difficulty' Coming To Hitman Next Week

by Elise Favis on Jan 25, 2017 at 06:34 AM

A free update is coming to Hitman next week, and it will deliver a new difficulty level called Professional Difficulty, offering a more challenging experience. Professional Difficulty will become available to players in locations where they reach Mastery Level 20.

Once that level is reached, the difficulty can be selected in all Story missions in Season One outside of the prologue. Elusive Targets and Escalation Contracts, however, will only be playable on the original difficulty level. This new difficulty introduces more restrictions to item availability, enemies and security cameras with advanced AI, limited save files and more rewards.

As for Hitman's leaderboards, they will now be separated by different difficulty levels.

You can read our review of Hitman's first season, which released episodically last year, by heading here. The complete collection is releasing on disc by January 31, at the same time this difficulty update arrives. Hitman is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Our Take
Many past Hitman games have given players the option to dabble with several assists and difficulty options, and while this looks like an extension of that, there are some things that sound tedious. For example, this difficulty level can't simply be selected from the menu, but instead needs to be unlocked and it involves a fair amount of busywork. As it stands, a lot of the game's design already revolves around replaying levels. Nonetheless, this difficulty level and the unlocking process that comes with it will hopefully please diehard fans who are looking for more of a challenge and brings more replay value to the game.
