A Fire Emblem game hasn't appeared on a home console since 2007's Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for Wii, but that's about to change. During today's Nintendo Direct, it was announced that a new Fire Emblem game is in the works for the Nintendo Switch.

This title will be releasing in 2018, and is considered a new entry in the main series. No footage was shown, and Fire Emblem is currently its working title.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a remake of 1992's Fire Emblem Gaiden, was announced for 3DS during the stream as well.

Last week at the Nintendo Switch event, Fire Emblem Warriors was announced for the Switch, which is a spin-off similar to Dynasty Warriors.
