[Update] Injustice 2 Has A Release Date

by Ben Reeves on Jan 06, 2017 at 10:14 AM

Update 1/7/17: The official NetherRealm Twitter account confirmed yesterday that May 16 is in fact the game's current release date.

Original Story: The creator of Mortal Kombat is being cryptic, but he might have revealed the release date for Injustice 2, which could be only a few months away.

Ed Boon, creative director at NetherRealm Studios, recently posted an image on Twitter, bearing the phrase "i2.05.16.17." The "i2" in the image hints that this could be a release date for Injustice 2 (May 16 of this year), but it's possible that this is something else instead. We've reached out to Warner Bros. for more details, but we're guessing that Boon wants to keep people guessing. For more on Injustice 2, check out the trailer from Gamescom, or read our massive interview with Ed Boon himself for insight into this creator's brain.

Our Take
We're a little skeptical that a major publisher like Warner Bros. would reveal the release of one of their biggest titles with no fanfare, so take this with a grain of salt, but it's hard to imagine what else this would be. Also, May would be a good time to release a fighting game, since it gives players a few months to get familiar with the mechanics before the fighting game circuit goes into full swing with Evo.
