Altered Beast And Streets Of Rage Targeting Film, Television

by Matt Miller on Dec 05, 2016 at 08:58 AM

Sega has partnered with the executive producers of The Walking Dead to create adaptations of the classic gaming franchises.

Stories International (Sega’s production arm) has been working on finding film partners for many of its major franchises, including an earlier announcement of Shinobi from producer Marc Platt. Today’s announcement sees Altered Beast and Streets of Rage lining up for the film and TV treatment, with executive producers from Circle of Confusion, the same team that was behind The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, Powers, and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Executive producers from Circle of Confusion include Lawrence Mattis, Julian Rosenberg, and Evan J. Cholfin.

What can players expect out of the film adaptations? “With Lawrence and his team at Circle of Confusion, we are beyond excited to work alongside them to develop and produce these projects,” says Stories International president and CEO Tomoya Suzuki in a press release on the project. “We look forward to seeing the Centurion from Altered Beast rise from his grave, and the Streets of Rage heroes Adam, Axel, and Blaze fight to take their city back on a screen near you.”

Our Take
Altered Beasts and Streets of Rage seem like strange projects to adapt into film, but we live in a world that has seen adaptations of properties like Battleship, Dungeon Siege, and Angry Birds. We live in strange times.
