MLB The Show 17 Gets Retro Mode

by Matt Bertz on Dec 03, 2016 at 07:50 AM

With Ken Griffey Jr. already gracing the cover, Sony decided its next PlayStation-exclusive baseball title is the perfect place to introduce some retro styling to its baseball diamond.

The brief glimpse shown during the PSX presentation demonstrated a 16-bit era HUD and two legends from the '90s, Griffey Jr. and Goose Gossage. After the event, San Diego Studio's Ramone Russell shared more insight. "Retro mode allows you to move the pitcher across the pitcher’s rubber and move around the batter’s box with ease, classic on-screen displays, an old school soundtrack, unique sound effects, a throwback pause menu and more," he says. "Retro mode is entirely separate to the popular Road To The Show, Diamond Dynasty and Franchise game modes. This new way to play MLB The Show is designed to be a fun, throwback game mode that instigates battles on the couch with friends."

MLB The Show 17 is coming to PlayStation 4 on March 28.
