Online Split-Screen, New Maps, Characters Out Now For Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2

by Michael Leri on Dec 01, 2016 at 07:00 AM

EA doesn't want you to put down Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 in the middle of this busy, shooter-heavy holiday season. In today's free update, Garden Warfare 2 finally received the oft-requested online split-screen mode along with a new map, two new characters, and two new Legendary characters.

The trailer shows off the new Frontline Flats map along with the new characters: Commando Corn, Scallywag Imp, Nec’Rose, and Captain Squawk. For a more detailed list of the characters and changes, check out the full patch notes here.

In addition to the update, Garden Warfare 2 is getting a limited, digital-only Festive Edition for $39.99 from December 1 to January 23. The Festive Edition contains all five post-launch free updates along with immediate access to two new character variants, a holiday customization pack, and 200,000 in-game coins.

Our Take
Substantial, free updates like this are always great and keep a game alive. However, I wonder how it'll fare against other multiplayer shooters like Titanfall 2, Overwatch, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Battlefield 1.
