Donkey Kong Country Returns Comes To Wii U EShop Today

by Brian Shea on Sep 22, 2016 at 06:17 AM

Nintendo has announced the new software coming to its Wii U and 3DS eShops today. Amidst the new releases like Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse and Severed, Nintendo lists Donkey Kong Country Returns, the 2010 Wii platformer developed by Retro Studios, as the latest in a series of Wii Retail releases on the Wii U eShop.

When it originally launched in 2010, we were very positive on it, scoring it a 9.5 out of 10. In 2013, the game was remade and released on 3DS as Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and in 2014, it received an excellent sequel with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Wii U.

In the past, games like Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Kirby's Epic Yarn have been re-released as Wii Retail titles on the Wii U eShop. These games appear as they originally did on the Wii and require you to use the controllers from the Wii in order to play them. Just as with many of the past titles, Donkey Kong Country Returns is priced at $19.99 on the eShop.
