Blizzard Phasing Out Battle.net Name

by Daniel Tack on Sep 21, 2016 at 08:20 AM

While Blizzards online services and technology are not changing, the company is phasing out the name "Battle.net", a term that they've been using for many, many years.

Blizzard announced this change today on official channels. You can read more about the change here!

Our Take
At this point, it just makes sense. Battle.net, while it may carry plenty of nostalgia as a term for longtime players and fans of the PC juggernaut's legion of titles, doesn't really make any sense to players today, especially those who are coming to Blizzard titles via console or mobile. Switching over to just calling things "Blizzard X, Blizzard Y" is easy to understand and unifies the brand seams without any possibility of cracks or confusion.
