PlayStation Plus Pricing Is Going Up On September 22

by Mike Futter on Aug 22, 2016 at 05:54 AM

Sony has announced it is hiking the price of PlayStation Plus one month from today. The timing is set to go up as the company enters the crucial holiday season.

Prices are going up by $10 for annual memberships to $60. This amounts to a 20 percent price hike for the service, which hasn’t seen an increase since its launch in June 2010.

Three-month memberships are increasing from $18 to $25 (39 percent). Monthly memberships are staying at $10 for a 30-day subscription.

Sony suggests that the price increase brings membership fees into alignment with “current market conditions.” If your service expires after the September 22 price jump, you’ll be assessed the new fee amount when your membership renews.

Our Take
While the price increase percentage seems steep, this is the first hike in more than six years of service. I suspect that some people will have a strong reaction to this, and if the value isn’t there for you anymore, be sure to cancel before you’re assessed the new fee.
