Outlast 2 Delayed From Late 2016 To Early 2017

by Mike Futter on Aug 01, 2016 at 07:59 AM

Red Barrels has given our fragile hearts a stay of execution. Outlast 2, originally scheduled for release later this year, has been delayed.

The studio is taking a bit of extra time with the game and now expects a first quarter 2017 release. “We want you to know that we listen to your feedback, we see your excitement and we know you care about our work,” the studio writes. “Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible. That’s why we’re taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve.”

The sequel takes players out of the asylum and into the rural mountains. You can read our hands-on with the gruesome and terrifying title from E3 for more.

Our Take
When presented with the choice of rushing a game out or giving it a little bit more time for quality purposes, the latter is often the best course. Red Barrels says it doesn’t like delivering this kind of news (which I understand). But I suspect that fans are happier to get word of a delay than play a game that could have been improved with more development time.
