No Man’s Sky Footage Is Out There, But Hello Games Wants You To Avoid It

by Mike Futter on Jul 29, 2016 at 12:13 PM

Hello Games has been working on No Man’s Sky for years, far longer than we’ve been aware of it. We’re a mere 10 days or so from the game’s release, but someone got a hold of a copy early and is spilling its secrets online.

If you really want to see footage of the game before you can get your hands on it yourself, it’s out there. However, Hello Games’ Sean Murray is imploring fans to hold out and experience the first moments for themselves.

People are scraping every bit of content and as many details as they can discern from videos. Right now you have a decision to make. Will you try to prepare yourself using someone else’s experience, or will you embrace wide-eyed wonder and the unknown on August 9?

Our Take
Hello Games has carefully navigated how it released information to the public, ensuring that we never knew too much. No Man’s Sky is about exploration and the unknown. Getting so far only to have this happen, especially as the person sharing videos allegedly paid over $1,000 for the retail copy, is clearly disheartening for the studio so near the finish line.
