Brie Larson Introduced As MCU's Captain Marvel

by Brian Shea on Jul 23, 2016 at 06:19 PM

During today's Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Brie Larson, who you might know from Room, surprised everyone by jumping up on stage during a "Marvel family photo." The newest member of the MCU family, Larson was announced as Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is set to be the first female-led film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The casting of Captain Marvel has been kept a mystery to this point, with speculation from fans running rampant. Larson was recently rumored to be in talks with Marvel over taking on the role, but nothing has been officially announced until today.

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey made headlines when she said that she would love to play the role in the MCU. Unfortunately for her, it looks as though that won't be materializing, despite her fans pushing for the casting.

You can see the moment they revealed Larson as Captain Marvel below.

Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
