Blizzard To Discuss New Overwatch Hero At San Diego Comic-Con

by Brian Shea on Jul 08, 2016 at 07:21 AM

Earlier this week, a cryptic tweet from the official Overwatch account hinted that a new character announcement could be on the horizon. Now, it seems as though a reveal is imminent, as the description for an SDCC panel from Blizzard states that the company will be discussing "Overwatch's newest hero."

In the tweet from earlier this week, an "email" between Soldier 76 and Reaper discussed (with the help of Mercy and Torbjörn) a new way to save lives of Overwatch agents. Mercy also points out, however, that the rifle will likely be weaponized, hinting that the rifle could function as a longer-range attack for a potential support hero. You can read the full description for the panel below.

Blizzard developers James Waugh (director of story & creative development), Michael Chu (senior designer, Overwatch), and Arnold Tsang (assistant art director, Overwatch) present a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process of developing the art, design, and story for Overwatch's newest hero. Q&A session moderated by Kim Phan (senior manager, esports).

The panel is set to take place on Thursday, July 21 at 6:45 p.m. Pacific. Overwatch released in May to universal acclaim. Our own Daniel Tack loved it so much that he gave it a rare 10 out of 10.

Our Take
Even though I'm far from a master of every hero on the large list of characters on the current roster, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't itching for a new hero. I hope this plays out the way we're thinking it will, and we get a new hero relatively soon.
