Air Hogs Connect Pairs Real Drones With An Augmented Reality Game

by Mike Futter on Jun 20, 2016 at 09:42 AM

Spin Master, the company behind the Air Hogs line of consumer drones, is getting into the video game business. The company is kicking things off with an augmented reality game that requires a real drone.

Air Hogs Connect is a package that include the quad-copter drone and a tracking mat. The gameplay tasks you with putting out fires in the virtual landscape, saving imperiled people, and hunting down objects.

The package will retail for $149.99 this fall. Other Air Hogs flying products retail between $25 and $110. The app download, required for use, will be free on iOS and Android.

Our Take
This is a neat idea, and one that adds value to owning a consumer drone like this. However, without a sense of the game design, it's hard to know if the app is an experience you'll keep coming back to, or one you'll delete from your tablet.
